  • Maurice Kane

    Maurice Kane

    Maurice initially completed a business degree but changed course via a post-graduate teaching diploma focused on Outdoor Education in 1988. For the next 13 years he spent most of his leisure and working time kayaking and climbing, instructing and guiding in outdoor centres, schools, polytechnics, universities and for tourism companies. In 2001 Maurice returned to university, completing post graduate papers at the Department of Tourism and earning a University of Otago Postgraduate Award for his Masters thesis titled ‘Adventure tourism: The freedom to play with reality’. He was then awarded a University of Otago Postgraduate Scholarship to undertake PhD research. Maurice’s doctoral thesis is entitled ‘New Zealand Adventure Culture: In Hillary’s Steps’.
