Summary of Research
This nationwide ecotourism survey aims to understand visitors' experiences and to
create a profile of the visitors to ecotourism attractions in New Zealand.
The goal of the research is to undertake a comparison with the original study by
Higham, Carr and Gale (2001). Such a comparison will enable an up to date profile
of visitors to New Zealand ecotourism venues, including an analysis of visitors'
demographics, motivations and
environmental values. Understanding any consequential
changes in visitor profiles over time will be useful in assisting New Zealand's
ecotourism operations and resources managers with the management and development
of this nature-based activity. Project outcomes will be available on the Centre
for Recreation Research website by May 2011.
